Major Achievements of the department in last Five years

1.        The Department was successfully took out one newsletter since 2012 entitled ‘HORIZON’.

2.        The Department organized entrepreneurial workshop to enhance skill development of students and impart financial literacy.

3.        The department started a campaign of joy of giving by teaching children of labour colony and educating them about cleanliness and hygien.

4.        8th March 2016 International Women’s Day was celebrated in the Department marked by rangoli competition on the theme women empowerment. A group discussion on ‘women Security’ was convened by the research scholars of the Department.

5.        A Handicraft Workshop was organized in the department from 4th August to 10th August2015 in collaboration with Pididlite industries.The workshop was inaugurated by Prof.Madhu Kumar ,the first lady of the university. She motivated and encouraged the students by participating in making of worli painting,spray painting etc.

6.        Diabetic awareness workshop was held on 2nd October 2015 and was inaugurated by Prof.Ashok Kumar Vice Chancellor .The workshop was a model of institution society partnership as it was attended by the diabetic patients and other elders of the city. The Diabetic Club participated in the able guidance of Dr.Alok Gupta. The workshop comprised of lecture on nutrition and health , rangoli on the theme diabetes, recepi demonstration etc.

7.        The entrepreneurial fair was held on 11th November 2015 and was inaugurated by Prof Ashok Kumar and Prof .Madhu Kumar. The stall comprised of hand made articles and other handicrafts made by students,their was food stalls put up by the students ,the attraction was stall put up by mentally challenged children and the request  stall. The fair was a huge success .

8.        A Talk was given by Miss Udita Chaudhary- Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, On Gender Sensitivity in present context. She motivated to students to learn the skills of self defense and to become mentally mature.

9.        A Handicraft Workshop was organized in the department from 5th August to 8th Oct. 2016 in collaboration with Pididlite industries. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Ashok Kumar ,the Ex Vice Chancellor of the university. He motivated and encouraged the students by his speech. Students learnt to make paper flower pot, warli art, decorative pieces.

10.     Firstly Nutrition week were celebrated 1 to 7 sept. 2016. Prof. S. Sengupta Inaugurated this programme. In this programme various activities like Rangoli ( by food items), food without fire, poster, slogan competitions was done by the students. At the last day of this programme Prof. R.C. Chaudhary sir gave lecture on deficiency of Vit. A. He also told about the sweet potato for the fulfillment of Vit. A deficiency. After that He distributed prizes to the winners of the competition.

11.     Rangoli workshop 7 to 9 sept. 2016 organized by Dept. of home science with the collaboration of Sanskar Bharti Mumbai. In this workshop students learnt the basics of Rangoli. Prof. Uma Srivastava inaugurated this workshop.

12.     one month cookery, food preservation, bakery & confectionery training was organized from 17.10.2016 to 15.11.2016 by UP Government. In this training there were three courses first was Bakery & confectionery in which students learnt to make cake, cookies, bread etc. Second was cookery in which students learnt to make Indian dishes, Chinese dishes and continental dishes. And the third was food preservation in which they learnt to make tomato sauce, apple jam, guvava jelly, pickle etc.

13.     students were organized diwali mela before diwali vacations 25 oct. 2016. Students made diyas, kalash, Rangoli colours etc. various food stalls like golgappe, chaat, Jhalmudi etc. some games were also there. Our V.C. Prof. Ashok Kumar inaugurated this mela. He played some games and won the prizes. It was a great time to enjoy.

14.     Aids day was celebrated on 1st dec 2016 to spread awareness among the students and faculty members. On this day Rangoli, poster and slogan competition was held and students spread awareness about this day through their posters and slogans.

15.     Women’s day was celebrated on 8 th march 2017. The theme of this day was Be Bold For Change. On this day Prof. Uma Srivastava was the chief guest and inaugurated this programme. Rangoli, poster and slogan competition was held and then the students of M.Sc and B.A. presented mimes on women harassment on public places and side effect of mobile. On this day free blood check-up was also done by Dr. Lal Paths.

 

7.

Future  plans (Next three years)

1. The Department plans to establish some Nrodal Resource Centres in adjoining villages to impart research and developmental activities with the help of faculty and students. The proposed activities are as follows:

2. The Department plans to established research centre on women and children related issues and also plans to setup a counseling unit for them. In addition the Department plans to start a crèche cum nursery school for working women which would also help the students to get practical exposure on child development.

3. The Department has  enrolled of 04 Ph.D students {O3-NET-, 01-Rajiv Gandhi fellow}, which is accelerating the research potentials thereby resulting in new findings and establishing new approaches in the field of Nutrition, Textiles, Resource Management, Human Development and Extension Education.

4.The Department has planned to organise a national seminar and a workshop on capacity building  of working women.

The Department has also planned to have a forum to hold panel discussion on various current issues related to women, children and society.

 

5.The Department is likely to open a small counselling unit on Health and Nutrition for the people of Gorakhpur.

In order to imbibe the young girl students with entrepreneurial traits, the Department shall hold small workshops on handicrafts ,textiles food processing etc.
